Black & Decker D2030 Digital Advantage Iron Review

The Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron offers a digital LCD display for temperature and fabric settings.  It is a 1500-watt iron with variable-steam control, vertical steaming, and burst of steam options.  It’s auto cleaning, and will sound a ready tone when it’s at the correct temperature.

The D2030 holds more water than many other irons, and it generates a very powerful steam burst.  It can even iron the wrinkles out of jeans.  Although it’s a powerful iron, when set correctly it will handle delicate fabrics without burning or melting them (such as polyester and polyester blends).  You may find that you don’t even need to starch some items that you might have before.

Some owners report that the plastic cover over the water reservoir breaks easily.  If this happens, the iron will tend to leak water out of the well onto the clothes as you iron. Overall, though, this is not a very common report.  In fact, owners report that this iron compares very favorably with more expensive irons like the Rowenta.

The 1500-watt element heats the iron quickly and keeps it warm.  The pre-sets for different fabric types seem to work perfectly for the fabrics indicated.  The fact that it beeps when it’s reached the correct temperature is very handy as well.

Its auto-off feature is motion sensitive, meaning that it can tell when you’re not using it and shut itself off.  If you pick it up shortly after it’s powered itself off and start using it, it will turn itself back on automatically.  This is handy for quilters and crafters who may not be using it constantly for long periods.

The weight of the iron is comfortable, a bit heavier than some irons and lighter than others.  It comes with a very long cord, which will eliminate the need for an extension cord in most situations.

The controls are basic, with no unnecessary gimmicks.  The temperature selection button on this model is easier to push than on some others in the same product line.

The sole plate is smooth, and glides very easily over clothes in spite of the fact that it’s not Teflon coated.

It comes with a plastic cup that makes it easier to fill the water reservoir.

When it’s time to clean the iron, an indicator on the display will let you know.  Cleaning is quick and easy to do.

All in all, this is an excellent and relatively inexpensive iron.  Amazon.com currently has over 1,100 reviews of this model.  Nearly all of those reviews give the Black & Decker D2030 Digital Advantage Iron a 4 or 5 star rating.
